I've used this petrol station many times when it was open. The cafe used to do a mean bacon sarnie as well. I think the one across the road killed this one off...

Looked like a local hang out for bored teens when I was last there. I have to thank them though for conveniently tearing down some of the fencing thus allowing access...not so pleased they smashed the sh*t out of everything else...

Do you know when it closed?? I can vaguely remember it when it was open, but cant pinpoint the year when it shut

There's a smashed cash register with the old 091 Tyneside phone code on it - when did we swtich to 0191??

I think it closed not long after the bypass work was finished. If you are heading north it was a bitch to get across the central reservation into the services. I couldn't tell you what year it was though

The change to 0191 from 091 was in 1994, although the site was closed in 1998-99 according to a local I talked to a few years ago...

i've noticed this place on the way past to St Marys but never stopped to have a better nosey around,think that might have to change now
