OK I had meant to get up early and go to BOCM at Selby, but the car needed petrol, I was skint and it was chucking it down, so to be honest I couldn’t be arsed!

So after a day of mooching around the house, I decided to see if some old greenhouses about half a mile away were worth looking at. Through some very damp fields I trudged and to be honest I was quite pleased with what I found

There are around 13 greenhouses and a brick building which would have provided heat to each house via a series of pipes. After a trawl through the internet I can find nothing to tell me the history, but judging by the dereliction the business has been closed for at least 8-9 years. I will definitely go back when the weather is better, as I reckon this place would be rather splendid on a summers evening.

A Fantastic set of Pics there TK. I went to College at a Horticultural College in Mid Norfolk and the Glasshouses were identical to these. They are really quite old you know!

Hi Foxylady and Black Shuck, many thanks for your kind comments. I put the post up on 28DL and it went straight into the bin Ha! Glad you liked my photos

Nice pics.....did you get a look at the boiler? Reason I ask is I have been doing some research into a firm who made greenhouses etc. and heating systems for them, who were very famous and their work was widespread. I might be able to tell from the boiler if it was made by them, if you have a picture of it.

I love old greenhouses too. :) Looks like there's a lot of horticultural stuff still left in there, some of which is expensive.

There's some old greenhouses exactly the same as these opposite Van Dykes Garden Centre, near to Worksop in Notts. (bloody expensive place that is lol). They look derelict, but the sign still says it's a part of the garden centre. keep meaning to stop off and have a nosey, but the car park is always full, and I'm always on the way to somewhere else, so never find the time.

Excellent pics mate, I like it. :)

:) Sal

PS, Just remembered, they used to have some greenhouses similar to this down at Broomfield Agricultural College, when i had to visit for some agricultural lecture when I did my C&G in Agriculture. Not sure if they're still there, or been modernised. :/

Very interesting TK421 -makes me wonder what used to be grown in there -or were they just there for the supply of heat?

Cheers :)

Interesting, thats just down the road from me, I assume you mean the square layout across the road?

Hi pixy-lajla, thanks for your comments. I have been to OCM Selby once, to the wood mill bit, but ran out of time to see the oil refinery, however with some time off for Crimble, who knows;)
