J. M. Barrie (1860-1937) was inspired to write Peter Pan after having played in the garden behind Moat Brae House between 1873 and 1878.
The house was used as a nursing home till 1997, since then it has been extensively vandalised inside.
Recently there has been a Moat Brae Building Preservation Trust set up to try to preserve the building.
There was a peter pan sculpture on a plinth in the garden but that has disappeared.

So the house and garden of Peter Pan lie derelict and abandoned for now.

what a damn shame for it to fall into such a state hopefully some one will give the trust the funds to save it

surprised it has not been already considering its history, sad,
nice pics

Isn't it listed? And if it is, why aren't the Council taking legal action against the owner to keep it at least watertight?!

From BAR register:

September 2009: The Scotsman reports that Loreburn Housing Association has agreed to sell Moat Brae House to the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust for £1 with an additional charge of £75,000, which the Trust will have 3 years to pay. The article goes on to note Conservation Architects have estimated restoration at approx £2million, with £25,000 of work required immediately to make the building wind and water tight.
