Hope Street Butchers, Isle of Man - January 2010

Yesterday I visited this old Butchers shop, and home. Was just a little explore on the way to recce another site that I'm really excited about The building inside was huge, a lot bigger than it looked from the outside. It has recently been sold to a business company, and there is a planning application to demolish the entire site, to build a new office complex.

sad to see another traditional shop end up like that like many other butchers etc on highstreets probably cos of supermarkets nearby!!! i used to work in a butchery and had recipes on bits of paper like that!!nice old fireplace aswell,thanks for sharing

It says quality above the door, but I'm not sure I'd get my christmas turkey from there

I have no idea, couldn't find out. I remember walking past about a year ago and it was closed, but I think it's been closed a lot longer!

no hun as much as i loved it there we had to come home

I love old closed shops like this, no doubt when the ownjer put the 'quality meats' sign up they were proud, but somehow, over the years there is something ironic about that sign about a shop in such a poor state. Great set of photos there.

Where abouts is this place?

I should coming over for a week soon to see the old man with the missus. Would love to be shown the some of the sites on the island if you're up for a meet.

Sorry for dragging this post back up, but I've been ill so haven't been online in a little while.

The butchers is close to the center of Douglas, so it's quite busy around there. If I'm not too late and you're still coming over, a meet up would be great. Drop me a PM and let me know
