After seeing ‘The Cat Crept In’ brilliant report on this place it would have been rude not to take a look, After getting slightly lost looking for the place Myself, Rookie & OneByOne were inside the grounds. The building is a lovely structure both inside and out and we were wandering around inside after a few minutes.
From the moment we entered the building we could hear a faint beeping in a back room, We thought nothing of it. After taking a few photographs on the ground floor we headed upstairs and found the source of the beeping, An alarm box. Since it wasn’t too loud we carried on then packed some of our gear away except for the cameras.
The alarm box was then silenced and all of a sudden and we heard a voice through a radio, A guy in a suit wandered inside with 3 police officers.
The asked what we were doing, we told them and they took our addresses. Asked if the car was taxed & insured and one officer asked about processing the film from my camera, We walked out with nothing to our names.
The Lister Drive Library was designed by Thomas Shelmerdine who designed a number of other libraries in the area and opened in 1905. It was paid for by Andrew Carnegie , Originally from Scotland he built his empire in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania which made him the richest man in the world at the time.
