There is something delicious about dereliction in the snow. Particularly domestic dereliction. Particularly derelict houses and castles.

Thanks for sharing!

What a lovely building. I would love to live in a flat there :)

Looks so good against the snow too.

have visited many times before the start of work and have hundreds of pictures.

wow

wow this is amazing in the snow, glad you got a look round i went over about the month ago but secrity was not so nice and turned me away bit of an a*** really!!!:icon_evil

The beautiful castle is actually a mid victorian statley home,it is a not castle in any real sense of fortification against an enemy attack.My sister once lived close to the house,I sadly only remember it in haze of dope,booze and other nasty substances...best forgotten....!
But I do remember they had big animals up there,maybe they are now the elusive beast's of Bodmin that I seek out from time to time,I hope so...
Great shots in the snow,make's it all look very bleak an down beat Dickinsonian.

Any news about the site now? Saw it a couple of days ago up on the hillside. Apparently its a big no go now, got quite a lot of shots from there a while ago. Miss visiting there.

I think the site is in a state of regeneration,and hence forth a nighttime effort is probably the only way in.
It is nice to see such a gorgeous victorian folly,come back to life.All to often (given my years) I have seen great stately homes fall to their knees,and literally get raised to the ground,which given my penchant for statetly homes is a sad affair.But atleast we commoners can now walk our green and pleasant land with a free step.Or! is that really true?
God damn it! more poetry 'William Blake' this time.

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold;
Bring me my arrows of desire;
Bring me my spear; O clouds, unfold!

Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

A bit to religious for my taste,but there I think the dark undertones to this great piece of poetry (read between the lines) stirs a cauldron of senses; a tear slips from my eye...

I used to love visiting this place as a kid, we would have a sunday afternoon out in matlock either at Gulivers Kingdom or Riber castle. :mrgreen:
Incidently i used Riber as a conversion project whilst at uni and got hold of the original blue prints from an architect in derby, it would be a shame to turn this place into luxury flats but even more a shame to let it crumble further.
