Hi All, new to the site,

This length of derelict railway and its surrounding area runs through my home town of St.Helens (famous for glass and rugby league) Basic history of the line begins in its construction in 1833 it was used heavily for industrial and later passeneger transport. The line was gradually reduced in use throughout the latter part of the 20th Century and the final section was closed in 2002. It has historic significance as it passes over the Liverpool to Manchester line just East of Rainhill where the first ever railway trails took place. The St.Helens line passes over the Liverpool oin the first ever railway over railway intersection bridge ever constructed. Most of the line now lies in a sorry state as you can see...

Nice to see something local. Ive thought about looking at the abandoned Station sites for a while to see if anythings left.

Cool report

Your photos are far too big, they really want to be a maximum of 1024x768. Please resize them or I'll have to remove the thread.

I grew up with an older brother who was into Marc Bolan, and an older sister who was into the Bay City Rollers, with regret remember both, tho I was only very young

Ah yes, those lads all dolled up in their tartan gear - another grim reminder of a childhood in 1970's Britain. Shang-a-Lang!

Really good photos by the way.
