Facts:"Buzludzha is a historical peak in the Central Stara Planina, Bulgaria and is 1441 metres high. In 1868 it was the place of the final battle between Bulgarian rebels led by Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha and the Turks. In 1891 the socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organised socialist movement. In honour of this act was built the Buzludzha Monument, one of the symbols of the socialism in Bulgaria." (1)

My story:It was a long drive from the rural town of Mechka where we stayed during our visit. Bulgaria is full of many wonderful and dangerous photographic opportunities. I have many friends there but care must be taken when avoiding some local characters with criminal tendancies.

Our car got stuck in snow, a Chevy Aveo. We got pulled out by a Lada which I found ironic "An American Revolution" (2) So if you do plan a visit remember that the Shipka pass will probably kill you if your not super careful.

Its a shame it never opened as inside it is a really grand place, I cant really describe so a picture is worth 1000 words, enjoy.

The first picture looks photoshopped. Looks like you pasted the starship Enterprise onto a hill. Must just be the massive contrast of it all. Well done on getting up there.

I do agree its unnatural. It doesnt blend with the area.

Nice crisp shots, better than that Siologen geezers, but where's the money shot? The inside wide angle of the interior area.

hah i love it, the building looks wicked sat there on a snowy hill in the middle of nowhere!

it looks preoperly bond villain-esque!

The problem inside is representing the scale of the place. Its a place that needs to be visited more becouse no one person can really capture it all.

It's good to see some more of this place, the only pic I'd seen was snap's one in the mist of the interior... Although like ya say the only way of getting any scale in the shot is to stand in the middle. Looks massive.
