A small site with 6 long, low wooden huts containing hundreds of cages. This place has a horrible feel to it, possibly because of the suffering caused here. Disused, but there is an adjacent kennels and cattery, and stuff is stored up here.

Bad news on this one I am afraid, a couple of weeks back I was browsing the location map and I saw this place, considering its proximity to my dwelling, I thought it was my duty to have a poke around:). So on Sunday I went on a mission to find it (which took bloody ages, in the end I had to swing through the woods) when I got there the buildings are still there, just. But it seems the near by dog kennels and farm have bought the land. And now is used as a make shift scrap yard/ horse stable and is in regular use:(. Pictures coming soon…

As promised a miserable trip in to the Surrey hills:

This place really is grim, and in the process of falling down, the buildings don’t seem to be in use (mainly because it is falling down) but the land is being used as a stable for horses and a scrap yard.

First I Google earthed it, and thinking that I had found a root in I set off. When I got there though, I found that the only access from the road was strait through a farm/ stables/ dog kennels which seemed to be very active. So I decided the only "safe" way in was to hook through the woods.

On my way through the thick trees as I neared the farm there seemed to be a lot of unusual items lying about, now I was pretty far from any woodland path, surrounded with dense trees and shrubs, so to find a trashed T.V, DVD player, a bunch of ACDC cassettes and head board from a caravan sized bed… you see where I am going with this:eek:. Just be careful, caravan dwelling folk can be very dangerous people, as well as the above there where quite a few fired shotgun shells lying about, say no more

Moving on, I battled through and eventually came to a steep bank over which was the farm. I climbed, I sat, I picked all the woodland debris out of my hair and pulled out the camera…

First view looking north strait up the central road:

As you can see that roof has definitely seen better days! I think its going to need more than some fresh tiles and a dab of tar:

As Cybergibbons pointed out in the original description, even though it was a glorious summer day, this place seems to have an almost sickly feel to it. The long buildings are literally filled with cages. Now I am not an animal lover (me and my cat Daisy get on fine and that’s the way I like it) but this place really got to me.

Normally I disconnect my self from “over imagination” and just experience the building (I once spent the best part of a day at CRX alone and that was a scary place)…(ok, it did freak me out a little… but I just moved on to the next bit quickly and kept exploring!). But after a while this place gave me that feeling that it was time to go, it might have been the threat of pikeys or being caught by kennels workers (all I could hear the whole time was dogs barking in the distance) or perhaps just the smell of the place, it smelt like of a mixture of hamster cage/ pet shop, thick sickly musk and small animal corps:sick::skull::exclaim:.

Seriously though, this place is falling into its self and the woods and me a little bit while I was there. So if you decide to visit, even after my charming description above, please be careful and all ways look at what’s above you!

Also there was a variety of dangerous looking chemicals, farm machinery and many bits of random jagged metal

Sooo there you have it, an abandoned Mink farm!

Now that looks a little different!

When it comes to repairing the place, looks like a job for the A-Team:D (on second thoughts, perhaps not -after all, they always use welding gear and a naked flame near all that wood would not be a good thing at all!!)
What happened at CRX to make ya freak-out?

Lb:cool:

P.s. -isn't it strange how so many of us Explorers get that "it's time to get out of here" feeling!

The first time I explored CRX... I was alone for a start joined with the fact that it was a very dark day in the winter and there was a lot of wind… these are not usually factors to put me off but every thing in there just seemed to add up. Firstly every thing was fine I walked casually around for about an hour when I heard what was definitely a “man made shout”. It sounded like a distant, strained “oi” but now I think back it sounded too long to be at me. Any way I leged it, calmed down and carried on but as things tend to, once you have been shaken, I was rather paranoid I thought I heard everything from police radio to a sergeant major style shout of my last name (that was in the animal testing bit –as I later found out) so pants ruined I hoped the gate and didn’t come back for 8 months!

On a gloriously sunny day I made my return and had a great day, weird!
