Former Studley Agricultural & Horticultural College for Girls, Warks, September 2011

When Studley Castle was built in 1833, it was home to Sir Francis Lyttleton Holyoake Goodricke. It was later bought by Lady Warwick in 1903, when staff and students moved into the new College. In 1912, the College began to receive an annual grant of £1,000 from the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1926 it was recognised as a training institution by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The C19th Castle at the agricultural college housed up to 100 students at a time. Courses undertaken ranged from housewife’s courses, residential short courses and courses in agriculture, to degrees in Horticulture and Farm Secretaries courses. Due to Government cuts, the college was closed in August 1969 when central funding stopped. Since its closure as a college, the assets from its sale were used to found Studley College Trust, which has been supporting students of Agriculture, Horticulture and other land-based Industries who would otherwise be unable to complete such courses for financial reasons.

More recently, the Castle has been part of the Rover Group when it became a management development college. It then became a conference centre. It is now part of the Best Western Group. Some of the buildings have been left to fend off nature, these are featured below (didn’t manage to get around the entire site in the time available).

What ever you do, do not go near the fencing which they have greased up! It will make a horrible mess.

Would I be wrong in thinking there might be a few pigeons roosting here? I enjoyed it, good pics, Thanks.

Very nice, the BA log book brings back some memories - but someone would've got a rolloikin for leaving it! :( Thanks:)

I'll be going back as none of the above looks familiar! I don't remeber that staircase :s

Nice work Sheep, if I may make one note....don't use Getty Images Archival photos they will hunt the pics down and try and extract payment from DP or you. I work directly opposite their license compliance team and they do the threatening letters and chasing payment they don't care who you are they want their money.
Like I say just a friendly piece of advice as I personally like supporting photos :)

Luckily, I have just linked to their photos from the original source so all credit is given where due. My links are just the same as those found if you use Google to search for Studley Agricultural College. I have not stolen any images or claimed them as my own work. I didn't realise it was an infringement of copyright to link to photos publicly accessible to the lay human using the internet.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Nah you're right, you've just linked to their page. Nothing wrong with that.
