Robertstown Nursery School

Opened c.1880 with Mandatory Schooling Act. Closure 4th Jan 2010.

50 kids 3-5 yrs Special Needs Unit 3-6 yrs. 1 Principal, 5 Teachers and 4 Ancillary Staff.

Victorian red bricked, slate roof building hidden away in the backstreets right next to the Cynon river. Roof is damaged in parts, but main building intact. Chock a block with school items. The council is demolishing most of these delightful buildings in favour of 'Tesco-type' schools. Seems this will be it's fate.

Access: 1. Danger: 2. Scariness: 0. Sadness:3. Owned by RCT Council. Permanently guarded. Guard will let you photograph if you chat nicely to his dog. Advise you ask council permission.

On first entering you'd think that there had been a hurricane through the site, and everyone had downed tools. Everything remains, books, toys, photos, clothes, untouched by vandals, but ravaged by time and weather. I felt saddened that they spent so much money on the kids, and then left the lot to rot. Barnados would have a store full if it was emptied.

The photo oppurtunities here were endless. Spent happy hours conducting the scenes. I was like a...child in a plagyground. Tried to avoid cliched setups but that's inevitable.

Never thought about going back here as it didn't look worth it from the outside, looks like it would have been worth a quick looksey

I had a guy who was fixing his car from the terrace houses opposite watching my every move when I went for a peek.

Thanks for showing.

That reminds me of a funny story that an ex-police friend once told me about a military policeman and his dog. He said that the two together had only 5 brain cells between them...and that 4 of them belonged to the dog!

Sad but interesting explore. I love your pics, Spooks...something about them really brings out the atmosphere. Cheers. :)
