Up a creek without wellies
I know this site has been subject of a couple of threads, but as I was close I thought some more newer pics might be welcome.

Compared with earlier pics the site appears to be suffering some more from the attention of those who want to wreck it or strip it out,,,,

A rather large base made of concrete,,,,,,,,, I wonder if anyone will ever make the effort to move it?? The bank beyond is to stop the river Severn flooding the site,,,,,,,,,,,,, it's not high enough!!

Some of the tower stays were anchored to the top of the quarry

Has any urbexer actually walked around to the top of the quarry to have a look at the winding house? I dont think that i've seen any urbex pictures of there, ever....I didn't have time (on the both times i've been here) but still want to trek up the hill to see the view, even if the winding house is locked down.

No pictures of my bird walking up/down the lane? dissapointing :(

,,, it was raining heavily on and off so maybe she didn't want muddy dogs in the house!!

This is no time to remind me of the top building!!!! I intended to get the glasses out and scan the ridge but in my haste to get out of the rain,,,,,I forgot

Looking at the pics I took it's still up there,,,, The lower winches have been removed of course

I have been up to the memorial at the top but that was years ago when the site was still live,,,,,,, perhaps I should go back when it stops raining :)

It's just stopped raining so thought I'd take a stroll up the 900 foot hill and take in the top winch house,,,,,

The day was bitterly cold and there was a gusty wind doing a hooley that stopped me taking steady pics so please forgive the shakes.

Here is a vid from the winch house that shows the views over the Shropshire plain

This is a good warning as the drop down is considerable,,, care at all times

This is a map of the area showing the building locations

This is a pic taken in 2003 from the top winch house during the demolition of Tower 3

Rodney's Pillar is up here as well

Erected in honour of Sir George Bryden Rodney, Admiral of the White, by subscription of the gentlemen of Montgomery 1781, repaired 1847. Renewed 1896 by subscription of gentlemen of the counties of Montgomery and Salop.

This track is from the quarry and is not 'public'

The winch house is well protected by a fence

But the gate was open :)

The approach up to the winchhouse, two metal doors well locked. There were no signs of graffiti or litter,, maybe it's too far to carry a spray can. The lengths of heavy angle iron had no obvious place here unless they were used to slide the winch down to the track when it was decommissioned

The winch was inside (where it still might be), the cable exiting through a slot in the wall and then over the drum

Below the idler drum is the anchor for one end of the cable, a sheave wheel and the strain gauge which was used to measure the tension of the cable and control the winch

The cable is about 2 inches diameter

Nice one Jools! A bit of a work out for the bionic legs....hope you remembered to pick up the car keys!

,,,,,Zeitgeist,,,, there is a local group petitioning against wind farms because they will spoil the view,,,, they appear to have forgotten about the spider's web of cable and the hole in the hill that overshadowed much of their lives,,.and provided good employment

I can remember with fondness some of the ways that we were before 1980 when Emilie Travel Livezey was blamed for inventing the acronym,,, NIMBY
