Default Blaenrhondda Infants school - May 2014

I visited this site a couple of weeks ago and the site is well wrecked. Word on the street is that it was set on fire deliberately but who knows.
The school was built in 1882 as shown in one of the pics and has served the local one street local community until 1999, there have been various planning applications to develope the site and the last one submitted or ammended was as follows:-

    SITE MEETING
    APPLICATION NO. 08/1642 –
    DEMOLITION OF FORMER INFANTS
    SCHOOL AND REPLACEMENT WITH
    RESIDENTIAL 2-STOREY TERRACE OF 4
NO. 3 BED HOUSES, 4 NO. 2 BED
APARTMENTS AND 8 NO. 1 BED
    APARTMENTS, PLUS ASSOCIATED
    PARKING, AMENITY SPACE AND NEW
    BRIDGE (AMENDED PLANS RECEIVED
    17/02/09 AND 19/02/09) – FORMER
    PRIMARY SCHOOL,
    BROOK STREET,
    BLAENRHONDDA, TREHERBERT

The former Infant's School in Blaenrhondda is generally a single storey building constructed in circa 1882. The main body of the building is of stone construction with a Welsh slate roof. There is brickwork to window openings, quoins and banding. The front/North elevation of the building has two flat roof small extensions consisiting of facing brickwork, in front of the original building.

The school remains in its arson inflicted derelict state today.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
