Western Tower, Reading - May 2015

Well, 2015 has turned up a lot of sites which I have been waiting to do for years! This one I have been looking at for about 5 years now and was always sealed quite tight.

Constructed in 1967 next to Reading Railway Station, the building was occupied by British Rail but has been disused since they vacated in approx 1995 but I don't know for sure.

The hideous building is going to make way for new developments within the city.

The insides weren't TOO bad considering and I was able to find a fairly photogenic office with a nice old school floor. That said, this place was maintained for so long and even had working lifts to the top! It was maintained for many years after closure and I'd have like to have seen it before Demo began, but sometimes the only way too see these places is to wait till holes are ripped into them.

Ah the tower, have fond memory's of this place, I did my Trainman(D) and later my Driver training in
The tower, had a great canteen near the top always top notch grub.
Reading train crew depot and mess rooms were in the same block but closer to the station.
Happy days

Seen some awesome photo's from there by a local lad who was up there not long ago and loved seeing yours as well. Hate to think the number of times I have passed it worst off all I remember them building it back in the 1960's

I worked about 200 yards away from it back in 1998ish and didn't realise it was empty then.
