Not sure where about's this one should fit, or even if it fits on this site at all as technically, it is open to the public, realistically its a bit of a mission to find.

Someries Castle wasn't really a castle at all, but a manor house build by Sir John Wenlock int eh 15th century... I say built, it was never finished, and ended up being demolished in the 18th century leaving only the gatehouse (which houses the chapel and hunting lodge) and a few earthworks remaining.

Even though it was never completed, it holds record as being one of the first brick built buildings in England.

It is believed to be haunted.

Window in the gatehouse, looks like it was built with defence in mind.

Poppies have made a home on this site, which gave a splash of colour to an otherwise dreary day.

Nothing of the upper floor remains, just lots of solid brick walls.

From the inside looking out.

I imagine this was part of the guardhouse, with these windows allowing you to look out in all directions for people coming to the castle.

The gates.

The only bit of this gatehouse which gave the impression they made an effort to spruce it up.

A frame for the poppies.

Decided to try my hand at something arty.

The weather started to turn on us, so I took a couple more externals including this one on the gatehouse as if you were coming to the manor.

As I say, it didn't require me climbing through windows etc to access, but it was a nice little find none the less.

Hope you like.

I've posted sites similar to this too, after some deliberation i.e. Sutton Scaresdale. The sort of places in managed dereliction. It isn't aways black and white. There are some sights that are in that grey area. But that's OK. I really enjoyed looking at your report so thank you.

Great stuff again! Some beautiful detailing in that brickwork.
Thanks for sharing :)
