We Came, We Saw, We Failed
On first glance, this old lump of Brutalist concrete seemed like it would be a simple ordeal to climb. Pb had found it while doing a recce in the area and sent me photos: It had nice sloping ladders and a series of tiers to rest on, which I assumed went all the way to the top. Looked easy peasy or straightforward at least!...
Well it wasn't of course! The first problem being a broken ladder at the very top. It had been deliberately sabotaged, with boarding bolted to it, rungs removed and a steel box fixed to the top. "Ok, with a little bit of safety gear we could get round that" we thought to ourselves. So we called it a day and came back with harnesses and lifelines with the intention of sleeping on the top. The antennas were cut and disconnected, the location was great, we just had to get past the ladder. It all seemed so perfect We packed our kit and hauled it to the near top of the tower and prepared to tackle the broken ladder. Konrad reaches the top. We have a problem: There's 3 inches of water sitting on the top of the tower!!! How this happened I don't know. You'd think the roof would be pitched or they'd have some kind of gutter to carry water away. Our only guess was that they did have a drain off for the top, but perhaps it got blocked.

Appears to be some sort of server rack.
All the antennas would have had backup power of course.

Safe to say we were both pretty gutted after all the preparation packing, driving up there, climbing up, etc. We got some shots and retreated to 'FacDonalds' for a flat, miserable burger and made our way back home.
