Bit of history:

This garden folly, which is also grade II listed, is built into the hillside situated on the south side of where there was once a lake. The façade is stone and is designed in a classical manner. Some of it is made from a stone from an island not far from Sweden, which was brought over by Sir Christopher Wren to be used on St Pauls Cathedral. It's been said that he sold it off on the cheap to be used in this building, which would have been popular to have in your estate at the time, there is another 'grotto' less than a mile from here. Inside parts of it have mosaiced floor and some very very old graffiti.
