The now sadly demolished Canterbury Gas Holder. Can't find much about the History I'm afraid although I did hear from a friend that it was demolished to prevent it gaining listed status.

It's a shame to have seen it disappear from Canterbury's skyline.

I was lucky enough to spot the great report by a user on another forum that showed internals of the gas holder and described the preparations for demolition taking place, that allowed me to get in a few more times before they started taking it down and see the inside of it! My internal shots turned out pretty grim because of using a relatively dim torch in such a large space.

2014,

The local carpet shop had a skip full of thick carpet just around the corner but live and learn I suppose,

A decent view of the "city" and the cathedral,

They're being removed everywhere as they're now redundant and brownfield land is valuable for housing. Nothing to do with listing which would never happen anyway.

Thanks for posting it though, nice view. :)

You got some lovely shots, but the first one was a true delight to view, there'll be a few of us who haven't bin in similar positions, thankfully there isn't any pics, Nicely Done, I enjoyed it, Thanks

Damn you needed a haircut in that first one :D Can't believe I never gave this the time...I guess the palisade put me off. I need to do at least one gas holder before they're all gone!

Nice one! Its a rarity so see inside one!
Excellent shots throughout! Love it!
Thanks for sharing :)

It's a shame there going, defiantly a fun thing to see one if you get the chance :)

Silly question maybe but did it smell of gas inside..?

I've heard some gas holders do still have the smell of gas about them, this one didn't and was quite well ventilated inside.

sorry for the double post I messed up with the edit button feel free to delete this one

I actually know someone who has pierced their scrotum on palisade fencing, there was a lot of blood. I also know someone who severed a finger and had to have it reattached, also a lot of blood. Neither of them were explorers though. :)

Yep, or a 99p tesco value pillow. TBF drugs and alcohol were involved in both cases, judgement out the window.

I tend to carry a heavy duty tarpaulin with me if I know that there is going to be palisade now packs up small and can be folded over a few times and put on top.

Well that's put me off climbing palisade for life  I can deal with losing a finger, but shredding my apple bag is a big no-no! Just thinking about it makes my legs turn to jelly. Hope the bloke was alright and still has venom in the old cobra :p
