Former Lancs Constabulary Station and magistrates court, Accrington

"The building was designed in 1933 by Percy Thomas O.B.E, and is in stone with flat roofs. The magistrates' court faces Manchester Road, and is in a single storey with a central porch rising to a higher level. The porch has a giant arch with voussoirs, and contains a recessed doorway. The court is attached to the police station, which faces Spring Gardens, and has two storeys"

According to a tablet inside the court house the buildings (Courthouse, Fire station and Police Station) were officially opened on May 9th 1935 (The year of the Silver Jubilee of King George V) by the Mayor, Councillor A. Wilkinson, The Chairman of the watch committee, Alderman, A.S. Bury J.P.C.A and the Chairman of the public buildings committee, Alderman, J. Waddington, J.P.C.C


It has been a long time since my last post here, (Somewhere around 2009!) But I thought this explore was worth resurrecting my account for!

As many of you from the area will already know, recently the police station closed and was replaced by a significantly smaller "shop" in the center of town. The former station at Spring Gardens was advertised for sale. My father being a property developer was interested in the site and arranged a viewing. Not one to miss an opportunity to explore such an interesting building I tagged along. I tried to remain discrete in my documentation of the building, shooting on AV and pretty much "firing from the hip"



Due to the nature of the explore I had very limited time inside the building. I would love to return for a longer visit and actually put some effort into documenting the building in a manner that befits a place of such historical interest.

Its always hard to urbex these kinda places just due to the nature of them so its good you managed to get sum shots whilst your father was been shown about
