Visited this by myself on a very wet and dreary day.this large house was built in 1904 and was used as a hotel from the second world war.in its last years it was used as a bed and breakfast accommodation for those on council benefits.why it has been laft to go I have no idea.but permission has been granted to knock it down and to build new homes on it,though it is structurally sound.i had no idea what to expect as I went in as no one I knew has been here.so I was quite happy to see no smashed windows or graffiti, just lots of mould.

Henry's Hotel

I rarely comment on here (although love looking at the different photos and take my hat off to the people that take them. However, just had to comment - another stunning property (Fab photos by the way) about to be decimated in favour of (no doubt) soul less shoe box new homes :( makes me sad and causes me to wonder about the sanity of this world!:sulkiness:

Thank you all.apoarently it's going to be timber clad houses in keeping with the area

Another lovely little find mikey!! I bet you were pretty glad to get out and into the fresh air with all that mould...makes for some cool shots though haha.

I have to agree with LM with his comment on the new houses:) even if they are timber clad to fit in with the local area, they will fall apart within 10 years...thats if they are "affordable" housing of course.

Typical of its era - poorly constructed to a limited budget, with the emphasis on 'interior show'. Fully rendered from the onset, to hide poor brick laying or 'speedy' laying, the penetrating damp one sees now is a clear indicator of this. The 'cowboy builder' has been around since mankind learnt how to stack mud bricks and moved out of the cave.
