The Luton to Dunstable disused branch line has been well documented apart from the final leg. I'm not quite sure what the point of it was, maybe a loop line for the extensive sidings that used to be there. Who knows?

Our journey starts here, a disused bridge just outside Luton station...

Seeing disused railway lines is great. This one's very interesting too. Love the signals...and that moss-covered chair is really quirky! Nice find. :)

Abanandoned railway stuff...ace!!
I like the bridge and cutting shots there!
Nice one :)

Nice find with that light, I never saw that myself! I don't recommend walking around there at night. Other than the drunk chavs, stubbing your toe on a track and almost falling down the side and into brambles can't be fun!

I remember walking around town when I was younger and noticing the cut outs and railings but never associated it with the old railway line. Now it's rather obvious!

Are you aware they plan to reopen it? Last I heard I think they've got permission now. I can't see it actually happening.

Weird! I don't think there is anything like that up here. I can't help wondering what it would look like if an old deltic was driven along there without anything being cut down! I guess thats my destructive mind.

Great report. :)

How funny - I've always wondered that too. Why a Deltic though? They're lovely trains. What have you got against them?

I've got nothing against them. :) I just adore their engine noise and the thought of one giving a few revs to get along there with the sound of trees snapping in the background would be cool. Sounds childish mind but so what! I don't think it would harm the train though. Tough old boys them deltics.

I've done some work in some of the buildings near this, noticed the old footbridges but never peered over the fence, that'll teach me to be more nosy!
The picture of dissused footbridge 1 is near the building I done work in, it used to be accessable to walk across but now has that horrible spiky fencing across it, the stone work is in good condition still.
I didnt realise there was that level of preservation along the line, i'd have thought the local chavs would have knocked down anything that was standing up like that signal post.
I have a feeling that this was the line that fed the villages towards and including Luton Hoo and Cockernhoe, and eventually linked back up to the main line at Harpenden.

This debate has rattled on for 10+ years, last I heard it had been scraped, the ring road is now going to be improved starting with the demolition of the entire Power Court business park, most of which is now vacant if you fancy a look. Having seen the plans for the road improvements this is well past the planning stages and work is planned to start in 2 years time.

Yes I think your right about it feeding Luton Ho etc. Would make a lot of sense.
