Wat tyler country park

Went on a bit of a mission today with the mrs so a few diff posts in diff places

Bit of history
"Located on the Thames Estuary Marshes, the area that is now the Park was once part of the Pitsea Hall Estate and as valuable grazing land it was then farmed until the late 1800's.

In 1895 the land was purchased by the British Explosives Syndicate and was used for the manufacture and storage of explosives.

In 1920 the Nobel Explosives Company took over the site and whilst few of the original buildings remain, the protective blast barriers, in the form of large excavations or banks of earth, can still be found scattered throughout the Park.

In 1928 the War Department purchased the land and used it as a sea Transport Depot. More buildings were added during the Second World War, including a number of pill boxes. The site was then used for various industrial purposes until Basildon District Council developed it as a country park in the early 1980's."

You should have a look at Rainham Marshes theres tons of dissused stuff there. :) The thames walk toward rainham is how to get to the Heliport too. ;)

I think the notice on the hulk about the CCTV is a deterant to keep the kids off, would like to know whats inside it that they don't want any pesky kids messing with. The photo of the block with the dish in it looks as if they have adapted a tank block to house some sort of range finding equipment

Hey all :)

I've seen loads of similar old wrecks around, but never seen signage like that on any of them. My guess would be that they've either dumped it full of redundant ammunition, or that it has been used for some sort of millitary exercises and unexploded training munitions may have ended up on or around it??

Not sure about the ammo there is no access round that side of the park big fences and razor wire, and the hulk its still in a side channel where boats can access and moor so its doubtful that its ammo!
