Dear All,

Sorry I've been missing in action lately, I've had a lot on my mind, moving house, travelling about and starting a family (!)

In the course of my exploits and wanderings I found myself in Agia Napa for a couple of weeks, and no, I wasn't there for the party atmosphere, I must be getting too old ;)

Anyway I managed to find one or two things I thought were worthy of note, I will give a description where I can remeber what it was, and I hope you guys enjoy the pics!

On one of the days I took an open top bus trip in the sweltering 39oC heat out up to the 'green line' which is the division between the Turkish occupied north of the island and more tourist friendly south. There's lots of abandoned stuff along this line, most of which is poorly marked with no visible 'fence' but beware as there are also many live mine fields. One of the more interesting spots is Achna Village ( info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achna ). There is a Turkish lookout post hidden in the second window to the left from the tower on the church in the following pictures. I was pretty tempted to go and negotiate for entry with the Turks on guard but I was advised against it.

I waved at the Turkish guard and he quite cheerfully put down his AK and waved right back, seemingly pleased at any interruption in the monotomy of his day. (You can just about see him sitting under the tree on the roof)

I'd have loved to get in and have a poke around but honestly through the binoculars it looked like a lot of empty shells and the mine field and machine gun totin' guards put me off.

Here's some odd shots from Othello's Tower which I visited one day ( had to cross the border for this one ). I know this isn't strictly urbex but interesting nonetheless.

Health and Safety legislation appears to be vague at best with nothing to stop you pitching over the edge of any number of dodgy places...

An interesting tunnel beneath the courtyard (it reallly stunk of pidgeon shit and urine)

Ok check out Part 2 for the 'ghosty city of Famagusta' among other things.
