One from the holiday album. Driving along the coast road into Concarneau (cf other reports from last year) by the Plage De Sables, I spotted this house with what looks like a fairly substantial German pillbox ( something like a Type 630?) built into its foundations. A quick hop out of the car also revealed a rocky outcrop about 300 yards from the house into the sea, which I thought looked too random to NOT be connected to the house in some way, so as it was low tide I decided on a quick explore. Sure enough out there in the estuary was a tobruk sunk into the rocks, suggesting that the whole house was a fortress (perhaps used by officers?). A very unusual arrangement but obviously part of the infamous Atlantic Wall in some way.

A view of the house and tobruk (in the rocks to the right of the pic) from the road

Other smaller embrasures for drainage and other stuff that have obviously since been filled in

And now the tobruk

A really interesting find and there are lots like this in Finistere. Enjoy!

Crackin' find Godzy. !!
I think that a european trip is long overdue, to see, amongst others, the Maginot line and The Atlantic Wall defences-trouble is,where do you start. There seems to be so much !!?

I agree - so much WW2 hardware so little time. On the topic, I was thinking about doing a little trip to Eperlecques (just outside of Calais) to see the V2 rocket sites. Maybe in October - one for you and Newage perhaps......?

That's a nice find :)

I never saw this when I was there, must've been too much of the local vin

 Too true my friend - plenty of that on this particular trip. They should market them as "Wine and Warfare" or "Booze and Barricades" or something.....

It would be easy to miss. This was my second visit in 12 months and I missed it completely the first time. There is a lot of this sort of stuff in Finistere but its well hidden awa. The French (presumably having been occupied) destroyed a lot of the Atlantic Wall, so some of the bits that are left are not immediately obvious a lot of the time.GDZ
