While staying with my cousin on Waiheke island she took me up to Stony Batter, built during WW2 to protect Auckland from the Germans and the Japs, the guns were never actually fired. After the war the guns were sold to the Japs for scrap, poetic justice perhaps.
We had a guide with us so were unable to sneek off to look at the tunnels and rooms that were shut off, always the best bits.

Nice to see one in such an excellent and undisturbed condition, Thanks for sharing.
 
Such a shame the army couldn't leave the gun insitu .....
The place would of made a great open air museam.
