In June of this year, I went on holiday to Carloforte, the capital of the tiny island of San Pietro, 7km off the SW coast of Sardinia.
It has a now-derelict tuna canning factory. Built in the 1800s, when tuna was the main export of the island, it now stands fire-damaged and overgrown on the empty Northern tip of the island.
We couldn't nose around as much as we would have liked, as the building was very overgrown and badly damaged by fire. Plus there was an active diving school sharing some of the land. But here are some pictures!
View of the factory from down the one road leading to it.
There were many of the tunnels leading through the main building.
Left overfrom the workers.
A building in part used by the diving school, hence the road and rubbish bin!
Last meal? We didn't pose this, but someone had clearly been having some fun!
We also saw an old, overgrown football pitch. Who says Italians love footy?
