this is the story of Thomas J. Bata, fleeing the escalating tension in his homeland of Czechoslovakia in 1939 and building the Bata Shoe Factory in the new town of Batawa, Ontario, just north of the Royal Canadian Air Force Base in Trenton. Mr. Bata brought over a hundred families with him and gave them affordable housing.

Bata built "model villages" in many places where they opened factories.

The Bataville area of East Tilbury is a good exmaple.
