This was my first explore on my trip across Europe, and at first, we didn't hold much hope for it. But it turned out to be pretty cool, and we probably spent two hours checking it out.
There are a couple of abandoned warehouses next to the building still in use by the same company, and close to the marina too. They felt relatively untouched; not a single mark of graffiti inside, and only a couple of cigarette butts in one room. There were a few random little rooms that didn't lead to anywhere, and just had files, storage crates, or were empty. We weren't able to access the top level as there didn't seem to be any stairs anywhere, just an ancient elevator. We did access the roof though, via the sketchy spiral staircase.
I couldn't find when the buildings where abandoned, but here are a few facts about the company:
-It was founded by Rinaldo Piaggio in 1884, and originally outfitted ocean liners.

-In the 1920s, Piaggio Aero brought on Giovanni Pegna and Giuseppe Gabrielli, two aeronautical engineers, to help develop Piaggio's aeronautic line. Together they created modern technical solutions for aviation, that brought forth the design and build of the world's first helicopter.

-The son of the original founder was the inventor of the Vespa scooter, and along with his other brother, rebuilt the company after their father's death and World War II.

-The company is now building a new modern manufacturing facility in Villanova d'Albenga, about 70 kilometers west of Genova.

We didn't take a torch with us, and I don't have a good camera, so these are all iPhone pics.. Hope you still enjoy :)

What a great place and great photos..love that spiral staircase.

Very interesting history and ace photos.I do like the spiral staircase but could imagine it was a bit scarey to climb?

Haha yeah at first it looked off bounds for sure, but then we saw that it was just the railing that had completely disintegrated, but the actual stairs were structurally sound. My friend went first, so by the time I got to the top, I was a shaking nervous wreck! Coming down was worse though :p
