Fortress Jaromer - Czech Rep Oct 2015

This was only a quick visit, you could spend the whole week looking around the tunnels, it was another guided tour but still good, The fortress is in eastern Bohemia in the Czech Republic, Its a fortress town and was built around 1780-1790, The place is massive, there are 40km of underground passages and getting lost is quite simple.

The first picture is a GE snap shot to show the tiny part we went to.



This is in the court yard, the slope goes up on to the terreplein (top bit with the grass on)



Then in to the passages and tunnels.....







There are passages running off left and right, these then split in to more and these again split in to even more, after a few turns getting lost is simple.

That place looks insane. Can you go round the whole lot or is it just that bit that's accessible?

Well all of the Czech bunkers and forts are preserved and they all do tours, and they like you to do the tours.
The bunkers are a little different as you have to get in touch with the owners for tours, as the sites are sealed
until the owner turns up with the key.
The fortress has open gun ports all over the place, I`m guessing you could get in to the rest, but you would need
good maps.

Kinda makes Detached Bastion seem a tad smaller !! Who funds these places, mate ? And are there plenty of people that wanna go see them !! Cos i sure as hell cant see this happening over here on this scale !
