1. The History
This is probably the only place on my HK trip that I have zero info on. There’s no info on the villa itself which is perhaps not surprising given the house is nothing extra-ordinary in itself. It sits in the village of Ting Kau in the west Tsuen Wan District, New Territories. Ting Kau Village is near the shore and its small beach was once popular with HK bathers. Unfortunately the water quality was affected by the treated water injected into Victoria Harbour and it lost popularity. Ting Kau is perhaps most famous for Ting Kau Bridge, spanning the Rambler Channel, from Ting Kau to Tsing Yi Island. In 2003 it was in the news for the wrong reasons when a double-decker bus plunged into the Village leaving 21 passengers dead and 20 injured.

2. The Explore
This was a total chance find. I’d seen what looked to be an abandoned house from the window of my hotel (see this report). When I made my way down to the village to investigate I found this place next to it covered by the trees. On this visit my camera completely misted up. That’s what happens in HK when you leave the cool air-conditioned hotel room for the hot and humid climes outside. In the end I gave up and took pictures on my phone. So photogenic was this house that I vowed to return the next day having given my camera time to acclimatise. This place has clearly been abandoned for some time and was relatively easy access. From the outside it’s nothing spectacular and inside there isn’t much left. But in terms of decay and photogenic qualities this house was right up there. I got as many decent photos from this one place as whole ghost villages. Anyhow, enough waffle. Here’s the pix.
