Default Hotel Du Golf, Spa, Belgium, April 2018

    1. The History
The Hotel Du Golf is located in Balmoral on a hill on the outskirts of the Wallonian town of Spa in Belgium. Empty from around 2004, the place was a magnet for urban explorers, it was part of a hotel complex that also included the current Radisson Blu, located across the road from Avenue Leopold II. However at around 19:30 on Saturday 25th March, 2017 a fire ripped through the hotel leaving it a burnt out shell. Arson was suspected but, like in many cases, no one was charged.

    2. The Explore
Not much to say here. Saw this place as we drove past. Stopped the car and had a look around. Nothing left now but a burnt out shell which is a shame as this place was previously a pretty decent explore from the looks of past reports.

I can only imagine the condition of this hotel before the fire but the fire has done so much damage. I found a 5 minute long video about this hotel before the fire. The narration and the description is in French but just a few short comment. The guy explores the hotel upstairs and downstairs and you can see how much damage there is compared with your shots. The arsonists must have set fire to the furniture.

Hi Hugh. Yeah...I saw that too. A bit smashed-up but not too bad. But significantly...a lot of flammable stuff. Real shame and a waste of a nice building with tourist potential. Spa itself is a lovely place with lots of visitors.

Not sure what led to it being abandoned in the first place but I think I read that the owner was in dispute with the council about paying council tax on the place, despite it being empty.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
