Kindergartens and schools are all over the place in Pripyat, 11 schools I think and god knows how many Kindergartens.

I have to admit that by this point I had started to become immune to the sadness of it all.

the following pics are from various ones

And there you are taking your photos in this overgrown corner of eastern Europe, used to it all, seen it all and rather enjoying yourself.....

Then you turn a corner

Now I know this was set up by some other photographer for a photo, but it doesn't change what it is. Childrens shoes, tiny, simple and covered in cobwebs and the radioactive dust of thirty two years of abandonment.

This was the shot that got me, the one that really made me just sit and think. I'm a father and now a grandfather ffs and I found it quite hard at this moment to actually not blub at the shear waste of it all, all these lives wrecked, possibly even ended early beacuse a set of circumstances that should never have happened.

Did I blub?

Ask me privately and I might tell you.

I'm not scoring this one

Yup I see the same too. One (not very small) incident literally destroying so many innocent lives. To read of and listen to the horrors of that event stun me even now. The description of a metallic taste in the air - that terrifies me because you know it's all downhill from there. Might be quick, might be slow but either ways it's horrific. I guess it's why the place(s) around the site replicate a dystopia so well.
I remember the Chernobyl Children being offered a family home for short breaks in the UK. I often wonder how many survive to this day. I bet it's not many..

Would I visit the area now? Nope. It's not me scared of the place (I'm only scared of wasps!), I think me not visiting is more of a respect for the people. An event so shocking that those who came to grief should be respected.

I had a friend whos parents used to take in kids from Chernobyl every year for a holiday, they were lovely kids. How different our lives must be to them.
