OK, first post on the forum - this is somewhere I visited when I was on holiday recently.

Abandoned silver mine in western Sardinia. Mining started here in roman times but finally ended in 1963. The site has been largely untouched since then and lies in a sleepy village to the north of Alghero.

First buildings you see as you drive down the hill into the village are what seem to be abandoned accommodation buildings - one is easier to explore than the other.

Don't step on the floor!

From these buildings you can see down to the cove with its dark sand beach (and even a little cafe) - but the cliff face is being eaten away by the sea,

Drive down into the village and you find the very photogenic dressing plant.

Couldn't venture into this because (a) it's a bit fragile, and (b) there were people in the restaurant and working on the houses at the end of the street.

The village is obviously still quiet, but it has 3 restaurants and they seem to be gradually reclaiming the salvageable buildings and renovating them - you can see a couple in this shot.

There is so much more to this area - because we were on holiday and the wife was getting bored sitting in the car I didn't go up the valley to the Podesta shaft and buildings - the main shaft once the hillside tunnels had been dug out.

Can't seem to do a Google maps link but I can give anyone directions who happens to be over there on holiday.
