Goh chan lau building - Malaysia 08

Locals call this place, Goh chan lau, or "five-storey villa". It was built sometime in the 1880's.
It was one of the first multi storey buildings in Penang at the time.

Over the years it's seen many uses, from a private residence and even a posh hotel. After the war
the building was turned into a school and finally abandoned.

In recent years several arson attacks have left this building a hollow shell.

Supposedly in the last year the site has been bought by a developer with intentions to save
the building, but so far there has been no sign of any work commencing.

Such a shame it's been burnt out...it must have looked fantastic in it's day. Even so, it still has a certain charm.
