I visited the Bokor Hill Station in August. It is a 1920's colonial hill station built by the French. It was abandoned when they lost power in the region. It is currently undergoing redevelopment and therefore the road through the jungle to the site, is closed. However it is possible to find a guide in nearby Kampot who will guide you through the jungle to the top, complete with machine gun wielding ranger from the national park. It is a hard slog to get there but well worth it. When we arrived it site was shrouded in mist. We stayed at the ranger station for the night and had a good look round the hill the following day. The building s are fairly intact and the Casino remains the most impressive with great views of the jungle from the roof.

I cant believe you trekked all the way up!! I went in 2007 before the Soka hotel buyout and we went by car and even that was hard going!

It's an amazing place ... did you see the black palace further down the hill?

Impressive structure. The picture gives the impression of it being in the middle of nowhere.

Has anyone seen the Korean Vietnam war film R-Point? It was mostly filmed in and around this building. Awesome place, thanks for posting.

Yes it was hard work but worth it. Yes we stopped at the black palace too - amazing views. The church was not up to much but looked great in the mist.
