Intro
With most of the former cement works now a crumbling dust we decided to pay what is our final and 3,000,667,445th visit to the site. On this visit we focused on the Clay washmill where we made some discoveries.

The Washmill
The structure itself consists of two slurry tanks, 2 building and several converyors, with two heading underground.

When in use trains from the quarry would be unloaded by uncoupling each wagon and manually rolling them onto rotational tipper. The tipper would roll the wagon and unload it into the conveyor below which would take the raw clay to the wash mill. The mill would process the clay through as slurry, a liquid-like clay mixture, and clean it to the materials required for cement production. from here the material would be taken by rail or road to the cement works.

Today, the works are under demolition but, the wash-mill is apparently due to return into operation for processing waste as the quarry is filled in.

Photos and explore.

Starting off we wandered through the ruined cement works.

All the lights functioned even though they haven't been changed in 7 years.

Even the control board lit up.

Upstairs these incandescent bulbs gave off a burning smell so they got quickly switched off.
