Had a stroll by this old place today, not a building of great architectual importance or granduer but rather pleasent nonetheless. I rather liked how the light entered through the gothic arch windows into the stripped and bare open space within. Unfortunately couldn't enter the building but instead had to settle for poking my camera through two broken windows...was pretty dark inside hence less than perfect results!!!

What a shame it has been lift like that, most likely to be sold off , looks like there are four comemoritive foundation stones on it as well

After the death of John Wesley the founder of the Methodist Church, severall groups split off. These were the Primitive Methodists and The Weslyan Methodists as well as a few other lesser known groups. However in 1932, the Methodist Union of Great Britain was formed. When all of these churches came together there was lots of buildings. It proved to costly in most towns to have lots of churches with small congregations going, so many of the smaller chapels closed down. It was the same in Hartlepool with the United Reformed Church Movement of 1972, when the Congregational Church and Presbyterian Church joined. It left severall BIG churches derelict with many in Hartlepool still there.

Much thanks for the comments and additional info, Nightcrawler and Krypton!!

I did find a tops auction house sign around the back, unsure if the building had in the past been auctioned off or just nicked from elsewhere and left there!! Didn't find a sniff of graffiti inside which was surprising..but then it was pretty remote set within a quiet hamlet!!

The building still looks in very good condition. I particularly like the arch shaped windows and doorframes. I'd love to convert such a place into my home, keeping all the original fitments in situ of course.
