Known about this one for ages, it is one of many to close in the Bolton area of late.

Was a nice little explore, millions of pigions inside the place, I mean like you here the crap hitting the wooden floor like rain

So had to dodge around that, luckily I didnt end up with any of it on me. Also there was plenty too see inside, however, I couldnt stay as long as I had wanted too as my maglite bulb went and my LED spare wasnt enough to light paint the place too well.

This church is located abot 50yrds away from the Phoenix Club (Peter Kay)

Also located right next to a school, so was quite lucky not to get spotted, but it was late so I guess that helped

This is not my picture, I found it on Images By Envy, but fits in well with the history and report.

The building on the right is St Gregorys Church, it has been around for over 15yrs, however, due to lack of funds, the building is slowly falling appart and has been deemed as unsafe so the church has had to close.

I figure it will remain as it is until it gets to such a state that developes will buy it cheap and send in the demo crew.

The building in the far back of the picture is St John's Church, which is an amazing building, however, its still open so no exploring in that one :(

The building to the left of the picture is indeed the Phoenix Club, a run down labour club made famous by Peter Key in Phoenix nights.

Anyway onto the pics, so eyes down look in

Jeez, you've got loads of derelict stuff to see around Bolton, wish i lived up there. ;) Love that altar at the back (no its not an altar is it?) the part right at the front of the church, thats the bit i mean. Thats lovely. How long has the church been closed? and what are they planning on doing with it? (apart from the usual thing of just sitting waiting for something to fall down grrrrrrr!!!). really like this.

Cheers,

:) Sal

I believe (not 100%) that its been closed since 2004 or there abouts.

Was a nice explore, no signs of any chav damage inside either :)

Wow, that's lovely. Really liking the woodwork and the altar with the wall painting behind it. Gorgeous colours.
Hate the way it's starting to get trashed though...one thing that really gets my goat is the total lack of respect for these places. :icon_evil

Cheers wish. :)

Thanks FL, I am with you on that one, I was uneasy about entering the church as it felt like a lack of respect in a way.

When I was inside I was very quite, not even talking to Dougy, complete respect for the place, shame that not everyone is the same.

I am not sure if it was a case of it getting trashed, but looked more like careless removal of items
