Stromness, Orkney

I go to the Folk Festival there every year, OH abandons me and heads for nearest music session, bodhran in hand, and I go exploring! The first lot are of an old house that we first saw years ago. It was unkempt and lonely looking, in need of a lot of TLC. Each year we headed back you could just see how time and the elements were taking their toll. Two years ago there was still furniture in it. After scrubbing lots of dirt off the windows I peeked inside...the furniture had gone....and so had the ceiling! All I could see at the far end of the building was an old cludgie and lots of rubble. No way to get inside, so just some picks from outside.















There's more to come of a little building just next to it which I was able to get into.

Ahhh.. I wondered about this house too. When I was there (last month) there was a couple of brooms and buckets beside the door. Perhaps someone is eventually thinking about bringing it back to life?

A few of the nearby buildings have been granted Lottery funding (or similar), according to the signs.

It's in such a beautiful location, it seems such a waste for it to lay derelict..
