So off we go, armed with 5 potential explores. One by one they all are disappointments! Either they are completely boarded up or they are being guarded, heavily. After a string of bad luck and let downs we stumbled across this house down a little country lane. The grounds were vast and the house looked great... until we got closer to realise we couldn't get in here either!

We snapped a couple of pics anyway and headed home to drown our sorrows. Anyone else having crappy luck?

We would appreciate some advice on where we are going wrong... every lead seems to fall through! :(

Once had a trip last summer of 11 or so locations, only one was a success, an extra one being a lucky find. Not long ago, I had 8 locations up from where I was and all of them were disappointments. It just happens. Keep exploring and one day you'll find several good ones in one outing.

You aint going wrong anywhere, you are out there exploring.....fails are just something you have to accept.

I think its the same situation with most explorers. How many times have I read a report only to be told in the report that "I couldn't find a way in" or "It's sealed up". I think dauntless-UE has had a few in the past with promising looking houses but sealed up. You could always think of this "if you don't succeed, try and try again".

Thank you. We will be trying again very soon! We have the little explorer in tow so we are extra cautious on where we will and won't go (even though he is probably braver than me)! Trouble is we're not the best at finding new locations, they've all been done before then they seem to get boarded up very quickly!!

The reason why they get boarded up very quickly is because as soon as the pictures are posted on any website, people will notice this and go and board them up. Also some explorers will use a different name for the property they will be exploring to avoid being boarded up.

What you could do as part of your exploring is to go to the National Library for Scotland website and click on "Side by Side". This will give you an up to date Google map on the right and an old map on the left. For an old map you can choose from a pull down menu a year and as you move the cross-hairs around you can see what was there. I use it for exploring derelict railway lines. Just a hint.
