White Rock House, Paignton - May 2017

Just to start off, I want to explain that this is my first 'official' documented explore, due to the fact that previously I have either not had my camera with me OR finding it impossible to get into a certain building. Anyway, this one was was pretty much a duck-n-dive operation as I didn't have much time to mooch about as much as I would like to. BUT I will be exploring more of the buildings when I am back in the area...

HISTORY
Not really much is known about this house but it seems to have been standing for a long time in this state due to the amount of weeds and vines climbing up the brickwork and the surrounding area. I believe it was once a farm house as there are a number of outbuildings, sheds and a stone-like structure that seems to represent a stable block. There was the usual sign of humanity on site such as cans and general rubbish but then again being near a main road could have just come onto the land over time. I would say that the house has been abandoned for well over 30 years from looking at the state of the roof... or lack of it. Some of the windows were completely bricked up, I would assume from a building developer some time ago but there does not seem to be any other signs of knocking the place down yet.

THE EXPLORE
After completely stumbling across this whilst walking nearby, the empty window from afar caught my attention... then I saw the vines on the outside all the way up to the roof. I just knew this was going to be a good one ! It took us a little while to find a way of tackling the weeds and being on a rather busy main road, we had to also tackle the traffic but after finding a 'path' of some description leading onto the grounds, we wandered through the stingers to find the outbuildings that we couldn't see from the road. There was a shed, 2 lots of stables, a cow shed (?) and a lean-to off the main house.

We didn't enter the stables as the roofs had completely caved in and the structure didn't look too stable (ha, see what I did there ?!) so we just walked around the outside so that I could take some snaps. The gardeners shed didn't have much to offer either, except some crazy ass dead vines covering the whole structure but I didn't get a shot of that as I was too excited to enter the main house as quickly as I could... Inside the house, there were two lots of staircases, with one being completely dismantled and the other one on the unstable side, so we couldn't risk going upstairs (however much I would have liked to !)

I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I liked exploring it. Next time I might venture up those stairs... :wink-new:

I love run down places like this, leaves a lot to the imagination of what it could have been. The fist pic of the farm house, I bet seeing that poking up through the trees from far away is pretty cool. Thanks for your first report!
