Massive thanks to Gromr123 for the nudge about this one.

H and I went for a nose a few days beforehand but given how hot it was and crossed with the fact she wasn't really dressed for scrambling through bushes I decided to return one evening. I was out in the car one day after work and Grom and I were going to go the next day so I figured I'd scope the place out. We had a few places lined up so I didn't want to waste time where possible. I was planning to go somewhere else nearby anyway so figured I'd have a quick look as I was minutes away. Visiting alone was a terrible idea.

I parked up and got to the point H and I found that looked like a hidden and quiet route, it was nice and easy so I kept going. Once inside the house I stared to regret my decision. I could hear people with very distinct accents nearby with barking dogs. After a bit of tiptoeing around and a few pics I realised the voices were getting a bit closer, and eventually they were right outside. As luck would have it I was directly under the flight path of Gatwick. I made the most of a bad situation and used the loud noise to my advantage to move about, but it got to the point they had circled the house so made a run for it when I had the chance. I was thinking I may have been spotted or heard going in, but I guess it may have just been bad timing etc. and nobody knew I was there. Who knows, but it got the heart rate up a notch anyway! It is worth bearing that in mind if you plan to visit. From the accent I heard, they are not the kind of people you want to mess with.

I haven't been able to find out any history I am afraid.

Should be a decent crop of blackberries later, the last thing you need when nosing inside property is voices outside, used to frighten the crap outta me.
Great pics Brewtal, Thanks

Wow this isn't in a good state at all! I bet this was a really lovely building back in its day, those fireplaces and stairs are really quite grand.

Great photos as always, see you are enjoying the new 10-18mm :p

Just a shame about the locals. Will have to try and visit this myself soon, especially being so nearby.

Nice pictures but a shame that nature, dereliction and a collapsed roof is taking over what seems to me that it was a beautiful house at one time going by the fireplaces and ornate woodwork.

Im sure that wud have been a stunning place at some point. Love the ferns in the corridor shot and the caught curtains!

It looks like somebody was thinking of conserving it as the hanging frieze was labelled?

Lovely tiled fireplaces...I think possibly them folks wiv accents you heard might have thought the same...I wonder if they are still there now???
