Interesting stuff in that cottage. The newspaper, I think could be The Sunday People is advertising Nairn's Oatcakes, so not that old. But as for the rest. The walls was sometimes lined with newspapers and used as insulation. So the house has been there since 1889.

The fragment of the story shown, brings back childhood memories. The only coal that was available in some areas was very poor quality, prone to producing much soot and thus an ever increasing number of chimney fires - or, as in my case, your Dad attacking the flue with the rods and brush on an ever increasing frequency.
