Default Derp Houses Volume 1, Co.Antrim, Northern Ireland, December 2018.

No real history or details here. The thing that these houses have all got in common, aside from being located in County Antrim, is they are all in a pretty poor state and/or have got very little left in the way of stuff inside (hence not merit worthy of a full report).

There's widespread residential dereliction in Northern Ireland, due to depopulation of rural areas as people headed for Belfast and beyond. This is borne out by the 2017 Population Census. Of the overall population of 1.87 million, 623 thousand (33%) were located in the Belfast Metropolitan area. That leaves two thirds of the pop spread over an area of 13,170 sq. km at a population density of just 95/ sq. km.

    House 1: Torr Road
By the side of the road and just a shell but quite photogenic:

House 2: The Blacksmith's house, Ballyvoy
Again long-time abandoned, very far gone and very dark:

    House 3:
Also Ballyvoy and just round the corner for House 2. Bigger but even less to see:

    House 4:
The third of three houses in Ballyvoy - this cottage was again pretty slim pickings:

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
