Location
Seoul, South Korea
I just had a five-day weekend, where I spent all days except one exploring. These pictures are all from May 1 when I rode my scooter through central Seoul and looked for abandoned buildings.

1. There wasn't much left of this area by the time I found it.

2. Here's a hilltop view of this small abandoned neighbourhood.

3. You can see several different architectural styles of Seoul. Soon it will all be like those white skyscrapers in the distance.

4. I got inside this church but there really wasn't much left.

5. An interesting wooden building.

6. On the far side of the condemned area I found traces of a large fire. One building was even cordoned off with police tape.

7. Here's a traditional Korean house in the middle of a field of destruction. This is another location about a kilometer down the road.

8. I found another new location not far from that one. This one is a large neighbourhood on the side of a hill.

9. Korean traditional houses.

10. A closer look at a rooftop.

11. An abandoned bidet.

12. On the front gate of another abandoned place.

13. A lonely cat.

14. Graffiti on the outside of an abandoned youth hostel/sauna. I think this was made by the hired goons who evict tenants.

15. These washrooms were for a local restaurant that closed.

16. In the foreground is the remains of a doomed neighbourhood. Actually, this is the first urban exploration site I ever visited, although most of it is gone now.

17. Another view of the same area. Where the big white building with black writing stands, there was once a very cool brick neighbourhood. The black writing, by the way, says "Brownstone."

18. I enjoy the tilt-shift effect to make cityscapes look like miniatures. This was done in Photoshop.

Sorry, I just saw the Overseas Sites forum. Could someone with the power move this over there?

Oh, those traditional houses are great...the way they're all huddled together with windy steps and all higgledy-piggledy. What a shame they're all going to be lost. That gate ornamentation is superb. Excellent stuff! :)

Verry intersting!, its nice to be reminded that overseas have places to explore too!. thank you!.

how close are some of those houses, they had to get on with their neighbours didn't they:mrgreen: its a shame they wan't to make it all white & sky scrapery, I love seeing the new buildings next to old. thank you for showing us:)

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do you mean the old houses' proximity to each other, or how close they are to the major skyscrapers?

I live in an apartment very similar in style and size to the brick ones in 13. Once a neighbour came to my door because I had a light on in the veranda so my cats could use the litter box. It turned out the light shone directly into his bedroom. We're also not allowed to have barbecues on the roof because it's too close to other apartments.

As for poor homes near rich homes, it's becoming an issue. Many middle-class parents have protested to the government, saying they don't want their children being educated in the same schools as poor kids. It just goes to show that money doesn't make people better.
