First upload & i've gone for Middleport as the bulldozers are going in on Monday...
Theres about 200 terraced houses of which about 5 are still occupied(the postman was moaning his head off) & a couple of old mills which aren't coming down just yet...
Apologies for the quality of the photos which is a combination of my cheap camera & my natural photograpic abilities ...so any tips would be most welcomed...

the pics are fine, mate, you got the feel of the place across nicely, bet it's an eerie place to visit, the houses seem in no worse condition than a lot of others around the country, seems mad that they're due to be 'dozed and not refurbed, old terraces like that have way more character than modern places.
nice work:)

I couldn't agree more. Last year during a meet-up in Stoke, StaffordshireRanger showed us a huge swathe of ground where several streets had been demoed. There was a massive pile of bricks and tiles from the houses at one end. I was absolutely gutted. :(
Nice photos, jonny r. Love the old mills. :)

Yeh the houses were in fine condition...new roofs windows etc
They were built in the 1890s...The council used the excuse that they were built on old Pottery waste tips & were unsafe, but they certainly lasted over a 100 years...Even the famous Stoke playright Arnold Bennett lived in one...

The mill is listed is it not? It's very old.
Last time I was here the front part was used as a small pottery and nappy-washing service.
Two workers allowed me to look in the lower buildings but said the mill was unsafe.

I had thought about getting in via the canal..

Is that church due to go, too?
after becoming a regular visitor to Alter Rock in Derby,http://www.alter-rock.co.uk/
i think all derelict/abandonned churches due to be knocked down should be put to a similar use, it's a busy, friendly, great place to go for people of all ages, and saved the church from demolition.

Seems a very sad place now, reminds me of the Smiths video with the boarded up terraced community in Salford.

A mates dad lives in one of those and refuses to budge! Though how he'd ever move all his stuff I don't know! He's got suits of armour, swords, bombs (obviously not live) and allsorts in there...the joys of working as a tradesman and a stint at house clearance :D
He'll be well impressed he's online and people are taking photos down there, he's a bit of an armchair UrbEx'er himself! I think they have one of the houses set up as a mini police station, as a lot of the empty houses are attracting druggies and the like.

Excellent pics, and so much dereliction. Love that mill, and the church, and can't believe they're going to knock down all those terrace house. I love old houses, they're built a lot more sturdy than the rubbish they plonk up nowadays. And have thicker walls so you can't hear what they're talking about next door lol.

Really like these. Can't believe how much of Stoke is derelict. You could be there exploring these parts for years, and still find more stuff to explore. Every corner me and Foxy turned last year at the stoke meet, had derelict buildings on them. Unbelievable, but an urbexers dream lol.

Cheers,

:) Sal
