Absolutely minging.

It certainly is. This was the first ROC post I saw in real life, for some strange reason the boys weren't impressed.

Does anybody know why there are beds down there? Would that be somebody using it for their own purposes after it closed or did some of them have beds?

I think most of them had beds at one point. Im pretty sure the guys stayed down there a lot of the time.

For some reason you tend to find beds left in 1968 closures but not '91s. And if the occasion ever arose that you had to stay down there cowering from the inevitable radiation poisoning you'd at least want a bed.

M y God there is no way on earth I would ever sleep in something like that! Talk about claustrophobic.

It's bigger than most caravans.

The Elie one would be OK, it's got a window!

Really? I would not have thought so. Just thought it looked small. It is pretty gross in there though.!

Most of the posts had beds originally, after the '68 closures most of the beds were removed. There are still plenty of examples with the beds still in situ. Most only have two beds though, three is a luxury. It was generally accepted that one of the three observers would be on "watch" at any time, therefor 2 beds would have been sufficient, in most cases:p

I believe the Peat Inn post has three beds too.

I went to look at it last night but what I thought was the post enclosure was actually a mine shaft  I found out where it was using mobile internet technology (I phoned my wife and asked her to look it up on Subrit) but it was getting a bit late. I think it's just as minging.

Peat Inn is a 3 bed, but the third isn't set up.

It's here - http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=56.277584&lon=-2.873741&z=20&r=0&src=msl but there are farm dogs who bark on site and a new house at the back.

HTH :)

I did go up to the farmyard but I didn't think it was the kind of place you could wander around without asking, especially in light of the last ROC post visit.

As far as I know that's been locked until quite recently so it's surprising it's got in that state. I suppose the ROC themselves would have stripped the 1968 closures of anything they were still going to use.

Do you know anything about the Cupar one? It's supposed to be demolished but I've heard a rumour it's still there.

I saw that but I heard a rumour that it might have been wrong. I've scoured the area though, and there's no trace- not even the telegraph pole.

I went for another look at Gauldry today, unbelievably it's deteriorated since Spacepunk's visit. The hatch is now stuck open and there has been some vandalism down below. :(
