Hi, I have just discovered this site and hope that one of you lads out there can help me.
I am researching the history of my Uncle Flight Sergeant Douglas Green RAFVR.
He was the pilot of Lockheed Hudson T9432, which crashed into Ben Lui on the evening of the 15th April 1941. Sadly he and the other three crew members all died in the crash.
I have been doing some extensive research for the last 18 months, and have found out a lot about all of the crew, some details of the mission and the crash, and a lot of detal about the subsequent recovery of the bodies.
My reason for contacting you is to try and point me in the right direction on several points, in regard to the Listening Post at Crianlarich.
I have managed to obtain the police report from the police constable at Crianlarich at the time.
The crash occurred at 2240 hours (confirmed by death records)
The police constables report states that at 0500 hours he, in company with two special constables went to the sheep farm at the foot of Ben Lui to ask the farmer had he heard a plane crash the previous evening.
I believe these two spcial constables were ROC members from the Crialarich Post (although I cannot confim it).
My theory is that the Listening Post heard & then tracked the Hudson until it fell silent after crashing into Ben Lui, approx. 200 feet from its peak. I am not sure what the procedure was for those manning the post in reporting such events, but assume they must have reported to an HQ somewhere.

The farmer at the foot of Ben Lui spotted the crashed Hudson on the 17th April with his telescope. The subsequent recovery then took place over the following week with a salvage team from RAF Grangemouth put in charge of the operation.

Prior to the above events I have a copy of a letter from from a Major Struthers, 35 Group Observer Corps at Ardmaddy Castle Oban, to the Chief Constable of Perthshire commending the police constable at Crianlarich for his assistance in helping in the formation and staffing of the Listening Post.

My question really then comes down to are there any records, log books etc that are archived anywhere.
I have been in contact with the ROC Museum in Winchester, but they only mainly have records for Hampshire and other sites along the south coast.
I also do not know what other posts were in 35 group.
Is the current derelict cold war site at Crianlarich the original siting of the WW2 site?

I would very much appreciate any help, asistance and guidance that members of the forum maybe able to give me.
I have visiting the crash site in September this year to pay my respects to my Uncle and his crew.
I hope that some of your forum members maybe able to assist me in my continiuing research.
I look forward to your responses.
Chris E
