Earlier this week myself and Stuck went for a short explore of ROC posts in the Oxfordshire area, on the way back from a weekend of green-laning round Wiltshire.
We set off from Uxbridge early in the morning and headed straight for our first post at Watlington.
This post opened in December 1959 and closed in September 1991.
On approaching the post I saw that the grass had been cut fairly recently and found that apart from some peeling paintwork the outside of the post it was in a generally good condition.

Hal Chase For my first visit to an ROC post I was well impressed with its condition. I noticed the lack of BT equipment on my return home and Googling for this post.

After leaving Watlington we headed for Stadhampton only to find that it is located on the wrong side of the security perimeter fence of the airfield and finding nowhere safe to park my vehicle.
We moved on to Culham post. I headed down to find it but was unable to due to the farmers crop and heavy undergrowth.
Next came Longworth and here we had a little more luck as Stuck spotted a protusion of concrete from the tree-line as we drove past. I parked up and headed up the side of the field towards the concrete. On arrival I found it was a Type28 pillbox hiding amongst the thick undergrowth. Searching round for the ROC post I managed to nettle and graze myself right up with no end reward of a hatch to be found.

Headed off to Boars Hill post but found this was at the back of a collection of large houses down a private road where my Land Rover stood out like a sore thumb. We are going to head back there next time we are out with a couple of bikes to cycle down the bridleway.
Middleton Stoney came next and this is a well maintained and obviously much cherished post as the grass was recently cut, paintwork on hatches and compound gate in great condition. A treat to find it in this way though obviously well and truly secure as far as we could see from the outside of the fence.

Brixworth came next nearer to home and found this post also secured and in a reasonable condition with ventilation louvres still intact.

And thats the last until next time.
Hope you enjoy

The Culam on is to the right as you look out the entrance to the pillbox infact I think there is a gate leading to it. Not worth bothering with as it has been trashed and burned out, put me off going to visit them. Was not helped by the one I found at Kington hill farm in Fyfiled.

There was glitto in there, cant think why anyone would take it.

Probablys to put into a restoration, probably middleton stoney - as pre restoration it was trashed to the max. Its been superbly restored downstairs -although ive yet to visit it.

I wouldn't bother with Boars Hill either, the fact its on a Scout camp means it has been visited, vandalised and torched by several generations of woggle wearing shitbags.

The Longworth one you mention is Kington hill farm the ROC post is right behind you where you were standing faceing the loophole. Did you see the wrecked pillbox.

Oxford ROC posts

Hi Mate

You were oh so close to the Longworth post it's a wonder you did'nt fall down the entrance shaft
it's between the two pill boxes.

When I was last at Watlington, I was caught. The owners dont mind people going in but would like you to ring the bell first.
