Visited the Great Offley Roc this morning.
Opened July 1959, closed September 1991.
It sits in a very overgrown corner of a field next to one of the main Chiltern footpaths. There is evidence that the post is visited regularly due to the gap in the bushes and trampled nettles.
The post is shut and the clasps are rusted solid. You can see into the post through a hole cut into the hatch where the lock should be. The post has water in it but I'm not certain how deep.
Rabbits are compromising the mound around the access shaft to the point that you can see under one of the corners of the hatches concrete skirt.
Not sure what this pipe is for?
Through the hole in the hatch.
